About

The Psychopharmacology Committee will have as its primary focus the charges listed below as they relate to adolescents and emerging adults through age 25 years.

This online group has the following charges:

  • To advocate for the safe and appropriate use of psychotropic medication, biologics, and neurotherapeutics in children and adolescents.

  • To advocate for and liaison with other organizations (AAP, AMA, APA) and promote research in pediatric psychopharmacology and neurotherapeutics.

  • To provide educational experiences, professional development activities, and mentoring experiences for trainees, practitioners, and physician educators in the field of pediatric psychopharmacology and neurotherapeutics.

  • To support the clinicians who use medications as part of their treatment plans of youth with psychiatric disorders.

  • To mentor medical students, residents and early career physicians in professional development and provide career support at all levels for those who desire additional training and expertise in psychopharmacology and the use of neurotherapeutics.

  • To educate AACAP membership, by providing educational updates in pediatric psychopharmacology and neurotherapeutics, including supporting the mid-year psychopharmacology institute and psychopharmacology institutes at the annual meeting.

  • To devise and adopt tools for members to use around psychopharmacology and neurotherapeutics, including parents’ medication guides, the tool box which includes measures and side effect scales, and the approval and level of evidence tables that explained which medications were FDA-approved and level of evidence supporting their use in children and adolescents.

  • To inform members about key issues regarding the use of psychotropic medication including shortages, side effect issues, biomarkers, and medications under study in pediatric populations.

  • To inform members about key issues regarding the use of neurotherapeutics in children and adolescents, including application, safety.
