About

The Diversity Committee will have its primary focus on issues related to adolescents and emerging adults through age 25 years concerning diversity and culturally appropriate prevention. Diversity includes racial, ethnic, religious, and generational differences and similarities.


This online group has the following charges:


  • Promote cultural diversity within ASAP, including recruitment of new members with different cultural perspectives.

  • Develop questionnaires for trainees designed to assess emerging adults’ cultural backgrounds, religious backgrounds, mores, and taboos.

  • Develop curricula and educational programs to address topics related to culture and mental health, including initial development of an app with quick facts on cultures, subcultures, and up to date adolescent and young adult pop culture references.

  • Discuss and promote didactics and research into generational differences and gaps in order to equip psychiatrists with the tools, language, and perspectives to connect with adolescents and young adults.

  • Develop policy statements for Governing Board consideration related to diversity.

  • Develop one newsletter article related to the theme of diversity per 6-month period.

  • Propose one topic with a recommended speaker for the Annual meeting, related to diversity and emerging adults.
